This building is built in such a way as to protect the people in it if fire breaks out. It is important to remember if the fire starts in your home it's up to you to make sure you can get out.
AT ALL TIMES
Make sure your smoke alarms work
Do not store anything in your halls or corridors, especially anything that burns easily
Only use the fixed heating system in your home. If this is not possible, only use a convector heater in your hall or corridor. Do not use any radiant heater with a flame (gas/paraffin) or element (electric bar fire).
Do not store anything in the gas/electric meter cupboards
Do not block any access roads to the building, and emergency vehicles need access
IF A FIRE BREAKS OUT IN YOUR HOME
If you are in the room where the fire is, get everybody out straight away, then close the door
Do not stay or try to put the fire out
Tell anyone in your home to get out, close the front door and exit the building
Do not use the lift (unless designated evacuation lift)
Do not use a balcony unless it is part of the building escape route
CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE
IF YOU SEE OR HEAR OF A FIRE IN ANOTHER PART OF THE BUILDING
It is usually safe to stay in your own home
Leave your home if affected by smoke or heat
Close all doors and windows
CALLING THE FIRE BRIGADE
Always call the Fire Brigade straight away to any fire, even if a small one
Dial 999 or 112 from a mobile, give your number and ask for FIRE
Tell them the address where the fire is
Don't hang up until the fire brigade repeats the address and gets it right
